Rotrex recently contributed to a vital project to upgrade the electrical infrastructure on a number of Scottish islands.
The islands’ electricity demands are met using undersea cables which require periodic replacement to ensure a reliable supply.
Even the smallest of the Scottish islands requires a robust supply – Papa Stour boasts just 15 permanent residents.
Rotrex was asked to provide the necessary equipment and expertise for three cable installation projects:
- Isle of Jura to Isle of Islay
- Mainland Orkney to Shapinsay
- Mainland Shetland to Papa Stour
Rotrex provided four 10-tonne capacity hydraulic trailer winches for each job, along with a skilled engineer to oversee the operations.
The winches were instrumental in safely and efficiently pulling in the new cables from the supply vessel lying a short distance offshore.
The successful completion of these projects has improved the reliability of the electricity supply to these islands while simultaneously reinforcing the reputation of Rotrex Winches as a trusted partner in these critical infrastructure projects.
