In August 2023, we were contacted by Radius to help remove a transformer from Bank London Underground Station, as it required immediate repair work. This was the second time Rotrex had worked on this project with Radius, having successfully completed the first job in 2018.

The Challenge

Time was a factor as there was a planned closure of the station. The efficiency and reliability of the operator, winch and transport were critical.  Our winch had to be positioned and secured at the top of the stairway, so the transformer could be lifted horizontally up the stairs to a position where the customers crane could then lift it vertically out.  This required careful planning and execution to ensure the safety of all personnel, equipment and the transformer.

The Solution

Rotrex provided a 5t OMAC drum (lifting) winch to support this application, alongside our operative who was on hand controlling the winch. The transformer was removed successfully from the station and Rotrex is returning in December 2023 to assist again when the transformer needs to be reinstalled.
